This module aims to instil an awareness of the presentations of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and of the impact of this disorder on the affected person and on the people close to them. It also aims to provide a comprehensive account of contemporary knowledge about the causes and effective treatments of ADHD, and to enable the student to be able to combine these personal and scientific perspectives. The second part of the module covers a condition only recently included in the neurodevelopmental disorders, intellectual disability. This condition was recognized very early on in human societies but it is only in the last century that it has been considered to be a medical disorder.
The overall aim of this module is to provide detailed knowledge of these very common developmental disorders that will be required for the student to have met the overall aims of the course.
